The weekend that was...

Weekend was fun! :)

We had 3 days holidays, with Ugadi (New Year) on Friday, so we went home to Mysore...
3 days of pure bliss, of sleeping in late with no maid disturbances, of mom's cooking, of eating Watermelon with hands sitting outside on the porch... :-)
The festival was of course celebrated in due style, by pigging out nicely on delicious food... :D

We came back on Sunday morning, which was slightly a waste, because the broadband guy had told that he will be coming in to draw the line, but he of course was absconding... But, we realised that there was a leak in the gas cylinder and got that fixed...
The week started off well, with us finally succumbing and buying a Washing Machine.. I have till date remained a firm believer that hand washing of clothes is the best thing ever. But, with the maid asking more money and the laundry lady asking for more money - we decided to save somewhere and went ahead and splurged on a Washing Machine! :-D
So any good advice from all you readers/friends out there for me? I have absolutely no idea about how to manage the said washing machine!!!! Please go ahead and treat the comment space as your own and leave your pearls of wisdom behind.
The week has started off on a good note, because my mom is here!!! (Double YAY!)
She also came to Bangalore with my sister and is there at her place... So, today and tomorrow - I will be going to my sister's place, which is always fun! :)
Now, am off to finish up all the work, so that I can leave early and spend some more time with my mom... :D
Have a Happy Week People! :)

Edited to add: The advice has been amazing! Thank you - all of you. Will follow them and of course will read the manual completely. :-)
But, I was stuck in office yesterday till 9! :(
Today too, have a couple of meetings till 7. I really hope that I will be able to leave by at least 7 today...because mom is going back to Mysore tomorrow...
*Keeping my fingers crossed!*

Washing Machine is a blessing in today's time with so much of tantrums from maids! Just use it & clean it occasionally & u will be free from all maid nuisances related to washing!

I have an LG front loading (Model : Trom). No troubles from 4 years. Load it and forget and it will shout when clothes are ready to be hanged :-)

Have a nice week !

Happy Ugadi babe! Glad to hear you had a good time :)

Congratulations on getting a new washer-creature :D Okay, there's one rule you must never ever break. DO NOT mix whites with colours, even if said coloured fabric looks very innocuous. Save your self some heartbreak and take my advice on this :D

I've also found that it helps to soak clothes in detergent before hand... rather redundant you might think, but it gets a lot of dirt out and your clothes come out cleaner and fresher after. that should do it.

@Kanupriya: Welcome! :)
Yea.. that's the major reason we bought it! :D

@ Swati: Sounds really convenient... :)

@DDD: Happy Ugadi To you too... :)
Thanks babe for the advice.. will follow it esp the soaking part. I knew that whites and colour shouldn't be mixed... :P

Pixie, Happy Belated Ugadi :) Looks like you had a great time at home! Watermelon slices - makes my mouth water!!!

Congrats on your new washing machine! Am sure you will find it a great blessing! I always used to prefer washing machine washes to maid servant washes - much more reliable:)

Looks like you are set to have a great week - with mom around and all.. so go on, have a wonderful week!

Pixer, Happy Ugadi so you had a blast!

As for help on washing machine, first read the booklet for all instructions.

Some basic rules for washing would be:
1. Never mix your whites with colors. So always maintain two piles.

2. If a cloth is soiled with anything dark or blood or stain then immediately apply stain-go (any brand available in India).

3. Read instructions on the clothes. Sometimes you just need a lite cycle and cold water treatment whereas other times you need hot and heavy treatment.

4. Add bleach when you clean your Whites.

Other than that you are pretty much set.

I am a total believer of hand wash ... but with no options here have been using Washing machine. I must say ,the results of not over loading, prior soaking, not mixing whites and washing in warm water has not been very bad.

HAPPY UGADI !!
And enjoy your time with your family ...

happy Ugadi to you Pixie !

I always use Cuff n collar for the shirt collars, then put them in the washing machine.

But wear n tear of clothes is always much more with the washing machines.

Well, you are supposed to read the washing machine's user manual to start with. Most ppl rarely do that...

So does your internet guy know where to draw the line?

I have no helpful advice as far as laundry, it is just one of many things on my list of household chores I despise even though I just throw it in the machine. It is the folding and putting away I hate.
